Description

Fronsetia (Free Online Service Testing Application) is a Java web application that allows testing webservices.

Fronsetia allows you to:

You can think of Fronsetia as a simple version of SoapUI on the web, or a simple and free and open-source version of the wls_utc utility (but less powerful - for example, it doesn't interpret the service's schema to provide separate fields for various parameters).

Features:

You can also read the Fronsetia wiki.

Features not currently supported:

Fronsetia was previously called SOAPServiceTester.

Installing the software

The most up-to-date documentation can be found in the package itself.
You can also read the Fronsetia wiki.

Initial steps - most are one-time

If you already have a JDK (Java Development Kit) and a Java application server installed and you've downloaded or built a self-contained package with all the required libraries inside (the default), you can skip this step.

To install the requirements:

  1. Install a Java Development Kit,
  2. Install a chosen Java Enterprise application server or a so-called servlet container,
  3. Add the JAR files listed in the pom.xml file in the Fronsetia package in the versions given there (and their dependencies) to your server's CLASSPATH. The exact location depends on your server. Examples:
  4. Restart the server after installing the JAR libraries.

Jakarta EE / JavaEE server configuration

Consult your Jakarta EE / JavaEE server manual about how to configure your particular server for deployment of applications, like creating a domain (if needed), creating managed servers (if needed), etc.

For Eclipse Jetty, you need to create a base directory you will be deploying the application to. To do that (in bash syntax):

Installation

To install Fronsetia, just deploy the fronsetia-web-1.1.war file on your application server. The exact method depends on your server. Examples:

Compatibility

Various versions (in light/minimal or full/self-contained WAR files) of Fronsetia have successfully been used with the following servers in the following versions:

  1. Apache Tomcat:
  2. Eclipse Jetty:
  3. WildFly:
  4. Eclipse GlassFish:

Other versions and servers may also work.

Reporting issues

Any defects or issues can be reported by e-mail or in the SourceForge project defect manager (in English).

Any improvement suggestions can be reported by e-mail or in the SourceForge project ticket manager (in English).

To report usage problems, include:

  1. the Fronsetia version you're using, e.g. Fronsetia 1.1,
  2. the JavaEE server or servlet container name and version you're using, e.g. Apache Tomcat 10.1.12,
  3. a description of the problem that the software causes,
  4. any error messages that are displayed or written to server log files,
  5. precise steps for reproducing the error, if possible. This will make finding the problem easier,
  6. the problematic WSDL file and all its includes (if it may have caused the problem),
  7. any other information that you think could lead to solving the problem.
